First 24 hours and already I am shoplifting.

I don't plan on making this a habit but I had to share a funny story from yesterday. As you might imagine I have been very busy trying keep my feet under me with the immediate demands of serving as a Bishop.

On my way home my wife called asking for me to stop and buy some mozzarella cheese for the dinner she was making. I agreed and made my way towards the store, all the while I was on the phone handling some items related to my new calling. I grabbed the bag of cheese and then left the store. While driving I concluded my phone conversation and then looked down at the bag of cheese. That is when I noticed that it wasn't in a grocery bag nor was there a receipt near it. Then it dawned on me. I had just lifted a bag of mozzarella from Smith's Grocery Store. I turned around, went back to the store and with a smile explained to the grocery clerk what I had done.

After paying for the cheese I got back in my car. I couldn't help it and I started to laugh. I begin imagining how the whole thing could have been much more comical. I could see it in my minds eye, there I am walking out of the store in my nicely pressed suit, from behind the store security stops me or worse tackles me or something. Then the police come, all the while ward members who shop at the same store look on. The police put me in handcuffs and off I go to jail much to the disappointed looks of others who thought they could trust me. Luckily, none of that happened and Heidi and I had a good laugh about the whole thing. Oh, and the mozerralla topped dinner was especially good.

P.S. Thank you Smith's Grocery Store for not arresting me and for laughing with me on this one. I promise to always buy the things I take our of your store.

  1. Next time you should turn to security cameras and give them a cheesy smile before you race off with your pirated bounty!

  3. Awesome. Reminds me of right after Sam was called to the Elder's Quorum Presidency. He took his classmate grocery shopping and they had everything on the conveyor belt. Then his friend realized he forgot his wallet, and asked Sam to buy all his groceries, including (and show ID for) all his alcoholic purchases. You will be a great bishop! Funny how things can seem to not work out as we'd like, but then to be able to see the Lord's hand in it all after the struggle. He'll make good use of you and your family!
